چکیده

The Pollen and Nectar-feeding katydids (Zaprochilinae) are an entire subfamily comprising four genera with species wholly confined to Australia. All are flimsy, soft-bodied and rather clumsy katydids. They are prognathous (Fig. 1A) and have the mouthparts adapted for their unusual habits of feeding on pollen and nectar. All fully winged species in Zaprochilus have peculiarly "rolled" wings (Fig. 1D). In addition, most are active during winter or spring and early summer, Rentz (1993).

Karyotype of the South African katydid Hetrodes pupus ( Linnaeus , 1758 ) ( Orthoptera , Tettigoniidae ) with special reference to relationships within the

The taxonomic position of Hetrodes pupus (Tettigoniidae, Hetrodinae) was clarified by a cytogenetic study of mitotic and meiotic chromosomes, including the localization of heterochromatin by C-banding. The karyotype of this species consists of 26 acrocentric autosomes and an acrocentric X chromosome, the largest element of the karyotype (2n male=27, FN=27; sex determination system is X0 male/XX...

SYSTEMATICS, MORPHOLOGY AND PHYSIOLOGY Cytogenetics Studies in Brazilian Species of Pseudophyllinae (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae): 2n(♂)=35 and FN=35 the Probable Basic and Ancestral Karyotype of the Family Tettigoniidae

The karyotypes of fi ve species of Brazilian Pseudophyllinae belonging to four tribes were here studied. The data available in the literature altogether with those obtained with species in here studied allowed us to infer that 2n(♂)=35 is the highest chromosome number found in the family Tettigoniidae and that it is present in species belonging to Pseudophyllinae, Zaprochilinae and in one speci...

Studies in Mexican Tettigoniidae: a new genus of Copiphorini and the first description of male Conocephalus (Aphauropus) leptopterus Rehn and Hebard and the female of Insara acutitegmina Fontana, Buzzetti, Mariño-Pérez & García García.

A new genus belonging to the katydid tribe Copiphorini (Tettigoniidae: Conocephalinae) is established, Brachycaulopsis gen. nov., collected from the state of Chiapas, Mexico. Also provided are first descriptions for both the male of Conocephalus (Aphauropus) leptopterus Rehn & Hebard, 1915 (Conocephalinae: Conocephalini) and the female of Insara acutitegmina Fontana et al., 2011 (Phaneropterina...

The spider-like katydid Arachnoscelis (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae: Listroscelidinae): anatomical study of the genus.

This paper provides some observations on the anatomy of the neotropical katydid Arachnoscelis arachnoides Karny (Insecta: Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae). Arachnoscelis is a genus of predaceous katydids that comprise species that resemble spiders in their general body appearance. The type species, A. arachnoids, was described in 1891 from a single male collected in Colombia. Following the original d...

Auditory fovea in the ear of a duetting katydid shows male-specific adaptation to the female call

Convergent evolution has led to surprising functional and mechanistic similarities between the vertebrate cochlea and some katydid ears [1,2]. Here we report on an 'auditory fovea' (Figure 1A) in the duetting katydid Ancylecha fenestrata (Tettigoniidae). The auditory fovea is a specialized inner-ear region with a disproportionate number of receptor cells tuned to a narrow frequency range, and h...
